Renting a Home

There are four main things you need to think about before renting a home.

Location - Where do you want to live?

Size - How many bedrooms and bathrooms do you need?

Special Features - Do you need an office?

Lifestyle - Do you want to live near a shopping mall?

Hi, I would like to rent a condominium/home in Toronto.

  • Are there any condominiums available for rent in the downtown area?

  • How much would it be to rent a 2 bedroom condominium?

  • Does that rent amount include everything?

  • Is there easy access to public transit?

  • Does this unit have a storage locker?

  • How many parking spaces are available with this unit?

  • Does the condo have a workout room/swimming pool?

  • Is there an elementary school/middle school/high school in the area?

  • Can we set up a time to see the place?

  • Are there monthly maintenance fees?

Landlord May Ask

  • Do you work?

  • What work do you do?

  • Where do you work?

  • What is the companies name?

  • What is your income?

  • How many people will be living with you?

  • Could you provide a credit check?

  • Could you provide references from previous landlords?

Apartment - the entire building is owned by management

Condominium - individual units are owned by different people

Townhouse - a house that is joined to other houses on both sides

Semi-detached - a house that is joined by one wall

Detached - a house that has no joining walls to other houses
